Watchtowers

These watchtowers can be found all along the Costa del Sol:

They’re all within sight of each other, and higher up in the mountains, all within sight of the Mediterranean.

They were first built by the Romans, then improved upon and repaired by the Moors and then Christians over a period of hundreds of years. Barbary pirates frequently pillaged the area and took prisoners to sell as slaves and, after their decline, invading and warring nations brought additional threats.

Just to put the locale in context…

I don’t know that anyone other than first-time tourists give these things a second glance.
